Members of the Nakuru County Assembly have cautioned the county executive against diverting money allocated to fight and mitigate COVID-19 effects through the supplementary budget passed yesterday.
The ward representatives said that the executive must ensure that the money should only be used for intended purposes as directed by the assembly.
Led by Lake View MCA Karanja Mburu,the leaders said that at the end of it the executive under the leadership of Governor Lee Kinyanjui will be held responsible and accountable for the use of the funds .
Mburu further said that the county executive must ensure that all food items aimed at benefiting the vulnerable should be bought within the county of Nakuru.
At the same time Mburu said that the executive should not use the COVID -19 crisis as an excuse of not proceeding with other county projects
He said that the executive should strive to ensure that money allocated for various projects within wards should be appropriated as such.
The MCA’s spoke after passing a supplementary budget presented by the Governor to mitigate on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The MCA’s however slashed the supplementary budget by a whooping Sh 600 million.The Governor had presented a budget of Sh 1 billion.
