Markets moved out of town as County moves to avert Corona virus spread

As a measure to stop a possible spread of corona virus, the Nakuur County government has moved all markets within the county to allow for fumigation and as a measure of decongestion.

According to the county corona virus emergency response committee, the move is painful but necessary

Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus Mbui ordered the immediate closure of Nakuru’s main Wakulima market to allow for fumigation.

Traders at the market will now be moved to Afraha annex stadium outside the central business district.

Those selling wares at the Nasher Square market have been moved to the Afraha main stadium.

The County Commissioner has also ordered for the immediate opening of Mawanga,Rhonda,Kaptembwa and Kiratina markets where some of the traders will be taken.

Traders at Molo market have been directed to move near the sub county social Hall. In Gilgil, all fresh food traders are to move to the new market. According to the committee, the County will provide social amenities like lighting, toilets, grading, leveling and security.

Mbui threatened to completely shut down the markets should the traders resist being moved.

He warned the traders against engaging in any kind of battles with police officers who will be deployed to aid in the movement

Nakuru’s Wakulima market has over 5000 traders with a similar number of buyers thronging the market almost daily.
