LSK suspends nationwide boycott and protests against Judiciary Desks at Huduma Centres to allow dialogue

The Law Society of Kenya has suspended the countrywide boycott and protest against the rollout of Judiciary Desks at Huduma Centres.

A notice to Newsrooms on Saturday March 2, 2024 and as seen by famousnakuru.co.ke , reveals that the suspension is to allow dialogue.

LSK had previously issued a notice regarding the planned boycott and protest against the rollout of Judiciary Desks at Huduma Centres.

According to the notice undersigned by Secretary and CEO Florence Muturi, on the evening of 1st March, 2024, the Law Society of Kenya(LSK) received a letter from the Office of the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya, in response to a petition regarding the Judiciary Desks at Huduma Centres.

The communication acknowledges LSK’s  concerns and expresses the willingness of the Judiciary to engage in dialogue with the LSK.

“The Honourable Chief Justice has
therefore extended an invitation to the LSK National Office for a meeting on 7th March, 2024 at 2 pm at the Supreme
Court Building, Chief Justice’s Boardroom,” reads part of the notice to members.

According to the latest notice, the meeting aims to discuss the pertinent issues raised in LSK’s petition and to foster constructive dialogue between the Judiciary and the LSK.

Additionally, the Judiciary has expressed its commitment to facilitating structured quarterly meetings between the Judiciary Leadership Team and both the LSK National Office and LSK Branch Leadership, as a mechanism to ensure continued engagement and positive
discourse.

The Society had similarly raised concerns at the NCAJ retreat held between 26th to 28th February 2024.

“In light of these developments and the meeting scheduled for 7th March, 2024, the LSK Council in consultation with the LSK Branch Chairs Caucus, has resolved to give dialogue a chance. The planned boycott and protest against the
Judiciary Desks at Huduma Centers are hereby postponed and all members are urged to suspend any actions related to
the boycott and protest pending the outcome of the meeting.

The notice further states that members will be promptly notified of any developments regarding the meeting and its outcomes.
