Citizen-Police trust is key to effective reporting of violent extremism incidences.
To enhance Police professionalism and accountability, Commanders drawn from different National Police Service Units were sensitized on the mandate of Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) and Independent Policing Oversight Authority – IPOA KENYA.
National Police Service relations with these oversight bodies remains adversarial due to limited knowledge.
The commanders were challenged to listen to their juniors, do the right thing based on available procedures and to mentor their juniors.
The National Counter Terrorism Centre – Kenya further sensitized the Commanders on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) as well as need for mainstreaming PCVE in their daily work.
