Kuku Foods East Africa Opens KFC Doors in Nakuru County

KFC Franchise holder in Kenya, Kuku Foods East Africa, on Saturday opened their 12th KFC store in Nakuru country at Westside Mall, being the first KFC store to be opened outside.
The new store is an investment worth over 100 million shillings and is part of Kuku Foods strategic expansion plan to open more KFC stores across the country.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief Officer Ministry of Ministry of Trade, Industrialization, Tourism and Wildlife Management Nakuru County Ms. Edith Kimani lauded KFC for investing in Nakuru County and boosting the economy.
“As Nakuru County we are very delighted for these developments as this is a boost to our economy.We hope KFC will also open several branches in Nakuru County” she said.
Kuku Foods East Africa, Group Managing Director, Derrick Van Houten, said that the new store would go a long way in creating new business opportunities and market its products in the regional areas, as Kuku Foods Kenya sets to open more stores out of Nairobi to serve the growing demand for international brands in the country.
“The fast food industry in Kenya is growing exponentially with international brands tapping into numerous opportunities offered in the market. As such we are targeting to fill this market gap by opening more KFC stores in more cities like Kisumu and Nanyuki before the close of 2016,” said Mr. Van Houten.
He noted the growth in disposable income in the county has contributed to demand for international franchises and brands. Nakuru town has the largest urban population who constitute 19.2% of the county’s total urban population.
The new outlet is expected to contribute to the growth of the County’s economy through employment of local residents as well as provide business opportunities to local suppliers.
Local residents were delighted with the opening of the store with David Kiarie sighting no need to travel to Nairobi anymore to enjoy KFC’s delights.
KFC has 12 stores in Kenya and 2 drive thrus – Mombasa Road, which was the first ever drive thru in Kenya and Shell Thika Road, which is the first on the Thika superhighway. KFC in Kenya was voted the most loved fast food brand in the 2015 coveted Taste Awards, People’s Choice category.
