Conflict is brewing between Kenya Medical Training College Nakuru campus and Nakuru county government over alleged grabbed parcel of land.
According to the KMTC students who on Tuesday morning held demonstrations in the streets of Nakuru town up to Governor’s office seeking address, the alleged grabbed parcel of land was meant for sporting activities.
Addressing media outside the Governor’s office, the KMTC students led by Mr.Abdulaye Farah said they were shocked to see some projects come up at the facility without their knowledge.
They vowed to ensure the parcel of land is returned to the institution for the benefit of the students.
“We want the governor to tell us which criteria were used to grab the land that was meant for a student as far as sports is concerned” said Mr. Farah.
Sentiments echoed by Ms Mercy Akong’o who added that their only savoir in the matter is Governor Lee Kinyanjui.
They stated that they will not relent in advocating their rights as students of KMTC Nakuru campus.
“We are just praying that this matter be addressed once and for all” she said.
The Governor was not in office and the officials of the Students council had an address from the Deputy Governor Dr.Erick Korir.
However addressing media over the Matter, Nakuru County CEC for Health Dr.Gichuki Kariuki refuted claims of land grabbed as raised by the KMTC students.
According to the CEC, the 23 hectares piece of land that accommodates both the Nakuru level 5 Hospital and the KMTC is under one title.
He added that the parcel of land in question has been set aside by the county government in collaboration with the National government to set up Radiotherapy facility.
Dr.Gichuki while revealing that there was full consultations between all stakeholders warned a section of quotas for trying to incite the KMTC students.
The Radiotherapy facility according to Dr.Gichuki will cost a half a billion and upon completion will serve eight counties surrounding Nakuru.
“I wish to let you know that all the land where the PGH stands and also the KMTC has one title. The county in collaboration with National government is setting up a Radiotherapy facility and therefore there is no land that has been grabbed as all stakeholders were involved” said Dr.Gichuki.
The CEC says already the National government has tendered and the contractor is on side for the project.
