Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has come out clearly that indeed he wrote a memo to all county staff demanding them to attend the recent Jamhuri Day celebrations at the Afraha stadium.
Speaking on Tuesday when he addressed multi-sectoral security meeting,Kinyanjui said the it had been noted that civil servants from different departments fail to show up for the national celebrations which are always attended by County commissioner, governor and a few patriotic staff and Kenyans.
“National holidays have always been neglected by civil servants and this is a bad precedence we are showing to our young ones. During the last Jamhuri Day i did write a memo to all the departments to attend the celebrations at Afraha”he said.
He went further to add, “We should attend the celebrations as patriotic Kenyans but more so because we are on duty as civil servants.”
The county bosses called on all the sub county administrators to ensure in future the national holidays are attended by all civil servants.
He added that due to the planned renovation of Afraha stadium, the future national holiday celebrations will be conducted in sub counties on rotational basis.
