Kindiki to be removed as Senate Deputy speaker – Kang’ata

As the wrangles within the ruling jubilee party persist, Senate Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki is being targeted for removal from the position.

Senate Majority whip Irungu Kang’ata said that the party has initiated a  plan to replace Senator Kindiki who is a supporter of Deputy President William Ruto.

He confirmed that the Tharaka Nithi Senator will be removed from the position because he failed to attend the Statehouse meeting convened by the party leader where changes were made to the house leadership positions in the Senate.

Uasin Gishu county Senator Prof. Magaret Kamar is being taunted as the possible replacement for Prof. Kindiki.

The move comes barely a week after the party ousted Senators Kipchumba Murkomen and Susan Kihika from the positions of majority leader and majority whip respectively.

Other targeted for removal from house leadership include Nandi Senator  Samson Cherargei who chairs the Senate justice and legal affairs committee, Laikipia Senator John Kinyua who chairs the Senate devolution committee and Mandera Senator Mohamed Mahamud who chairs the Senate finance committee.

Nominated Senators who also skipped the Statehouse meeting are expected to be punished by way of revoking their membership from all Senate House committees they serve in.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is moving to assert control of the jubilee party and control of both the Senate and National assembly as the obvious fallout between him and his Deputy gets murky.
