Leaders have been cautioned not to politicize the Kihoto disaster in Naivasha, instead join hands for long term measures to curb flooding around Lake Naivasha.

The call was made on Thursday by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika who toured the area to asses the situation.
A multi-agency team will now take over emergency operations in Kihoto, Naivasha following the Lake Naivasha rising water disaster that has displaced families.
“We have the formation of a multi-agency team to coordinate emergency operations in Kihoto Estate, in Lakeview Ward, Naivasha, where rising Lake Naivasha waters have displaced over 4,000 residents,” she stated.

According to Kihika, the team, comprising County officials, NGAO officers, and clergy, will oversee evacuation, shelter, and food distribution for affected families.
The Governor added that rescue efforts had been intensified with more boats, tippers, and lorries deployed.
So far, over 2,000 people have been evacuated and relocated to safer grounds.
Kihika also used the moment to appeal to churches and schools to host displaced families, especially candidates sitting national exams, and urged corporate partners to support ongoing humanitarian efforts.
