Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika has directed the Department of Public Service to find alternative accommodation for families currently sheltering in schools on a short-term basis.
Kihika said this is to pave way for learners as schools reopen for the second term.
She made the remarks while acknowledging the devastating impact of floods.
Additionally, Kihika announced plans to cover school fees and provide uniforms for school-going children to facilitate their return to school.
She was speaking when accompanied by County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara while concluding the distribution of relief food in Nyota and Sirikwa Wards in Kuresoi North Sub-county, aiding 90 displaced families.
On his part County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara reiterated that Government is committed to ensuring every Kenyan is safe.
He called on locals to adhere to Government safety guidelines.
The event was also attended by area MCAs Wesley Langat (Nyota) and Emmanuel Langat (Sirikwa), as well as county staff, among others.
