The Nakuru County Senator, Susan Kihika, on Saturday joined thousands of Catholic faithful at the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) showground Nakuru.
The senator was among the guests who had joined the Catholics at the marking of the Golden Jubilee since the setting up of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru. Others in attendance were Governor Lee Kinyanjui of Nakuru and Stanley Kiptis of Baringo County.
Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria, former NACADA chair John Mututho were also in attendance and Dr Stanley Karanja was also present.
Addressing the faithful, Senator Kihika wished them well and took the opportunity to thank the church for the great contributions it had made towards the welfare of the community.
“Let me take the opportunity to wish all the Catholic faithful well as they mark this great day. We cannot forget the many contributions the church has made in the fields of education, health, social justice and peace in Nakuru and the country at large,” said the Senator.
The Catholic Diocese of Nakuru was founded on 11th January 1968. It covers both Nakuru and Baringo counties and with a population of over 400,000, 20-21% of the residents are Catholics.
The service was presided over by Archbishop John Njue and the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, His Excellency Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo.
