Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has commenced exercise of fencing its property at Menengai Crater in Nakuru County.
The move is aimed to protect the entire caldera that belongs to KFS, which sold a section to Geothermal Development Company.
They are now fencing off their remaining portion (7,000 acres with 55kms of electric fence).
It should be noted that KFS now charges visitors to access the crater and viewpoint, hence the need for only one official entry point; through the Milimani gate.
The crater has also recorded cases of insecurity, including incidents where bodies have been dumped there, hence the fencing is a welcome move.
