Nakuru’s Pipeline-based John Mututho Empowerment Centre has partnered with County Government of Nakuru towards addressing street children menace.
A new ultramodern Ward has been sate up for the same at the facility that is one of its kind in Nakuru County and the Nation at large.
According to John Mututho-the founder of JOMEC, the new Ward is as a result between good working relationship between JOMEC centre and Nakuru county government.
Addressing Journalists during a tour of the facility in company of Nakuru County CECM for Gender,Youth,Sports and Culture Josephine Atieno, Mututho lauded the county government of Nakuru under leadership of Governor Susan Kihika for partnering with the centre on the same.
Mututho was categorical that the past regimes had neglected the issue of street children, hence becoming a menace.
He pointed out that the Ward will be able to serve upto 500 street children who will be undertaken through professional counseling in their journey towards reforming.
The former NACADA boss called on other County Governments to emulate the same, adding that the centre is ready to partner with other county governments towards addressing street children menace as well as drug and alcohol addiction among young people and adults.
“I would like to laud the County Government for this move. This is the way to go with less politicking but work. I would also want to laud the National Government for supporting the initiative,” stated Mututho.
Sentiments echoed by CECM Josephine who reiterated Governor Susan Kihika’s commitment towards ensuring humane way of addressing Street children menace.
It should be noted that John Mututho Empowerment Center (JOMEC) is a world class rehab center and one of the best in Africa.
In a past interview, Mututho who once served as NACADA chair described JOMEC as a place for peace and recovery from substance abuse.
