Police in Nakuru have launched investigation into an incident in which a police officer shot dead his wife before turning the gun on himself in unclear circumstances at Piave police patrol base in Njoro Sub County.
Nakuru County Police Commandant Hassan Barua says the investigations over the murder will establish the cause adding that police at the base keep guns for purposes of patrol.
According to him, the police got information of the murder through one of the officers at the base that went to check on him yesterday morning before he got curious and opened one of the windows where he saw the lifeless body of the wife.
He confirmed that the base has now lost two police officers in a span of a week adding that plans to replace them are already underway.
Cornelius Taalam is said to have had an argument with his wife Eunice Wambui over an unknown issue before he picked up his gun and shot her.
Residents said the couple had been staying well together for the last three months with no signs of conflict until on Monday evening when they heard four gunshots from the house.
Accordign to Wambui’s uncle Stephen Maina,the deceased had completed high school in 2017 and relocated to Piave where she was in search of a job before meeting the police officer.
He says the two got married and started living together and all was going well before the incident happened.
Hillary Chebkai the partner to the deceased told the press that he was with Taalam on Monday afternoon at the center where he seem okay and was in good moods adding that he also joked about a bhang case he was to present in court yesterday.
According to him when he returned home in the evening the house of the deceased was locked and saw it best to talk to him in the morning where he was directed by the Ocs to check on him since he was not answering his phone.
