Illegal bar operators in Nakuru have been put on notice.
This even as a joint team comprising the County Government of Nakuru officials and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) from Njoro Sub-County on Monday February 19, 2024 conducted an operation targeting illegal bars operating in Njoro Ward.
At Sosiot village, the team led by the County Executive for Trade, Stephen Kuria and Rose Kibut, Assistant County Commissioner Njoro Sub-County, discovered unauthorized bars in residential areas with counterfeit alcohol products lacking proper Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) certification and fraudulent Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stickers.
Kuria noted that the the County Government does not permit bars to operate in residential area.
At Njoro Town several people were arrested by the Police following the discovery of counterfeit alcohol in several wines and spirits outlets.
The CECM issued a stern warning regarding the consumption of alcohol from unverified sources and urged residents to be vigilant.
The caution comes in light of past incidences where such practices have led to blindness and loss of life.
“Nakuru County will continue to put the Health and well-being of the Nakuru people paramount,” stated Kuria.
