Why IEBC declared William Ruto President-elect

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has declared William Ruto President-elect Republic of Kenya as well as Rigathi Gachagua Deputy President-elect.

Making the announcement on Monday evening, IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati who is also the Presidential Returning officer revealed that Ruto  of UDA-Kenya Kwanza garnered 7,176,141 which translates to 50.49%.

His close competitor Raila Odinga of Azimio-One Kenya garnered 6,942,930 which translates to 48.85%.

Meanwhile, George Wajakoyah garnered 61,969 votes (0.44%) while Waihiga Mwaureh of Agano Party garnered 31,987 votes (0.23%).

Chebukati noted that despite intimidation and harassment, the commission and moreso him as chair adhered to the law which he took oath of office.

“The journey has not been easy but I took oath of office to serve Kenyans and protect the constitution of Kenya” he said.

Ruto vowed to work closely with other leaders in ensuring a prosperous Kenya.

“We have no laxury to look back at whatever bad things were done to us but rather work together towards a prosperous country” he said.

He added that his victory was ordained by God.

Ruto urged religious leaders to continue praying for the country for unity and prosperity.
