When you hear of Governor Susan Kihika’s Uji Program for ECDE learners, you may think it is only for learners in terms of nutrition.
However, a keen look at the program, it is clear that it has also impacted positively on several households in terms of economy.
According to county government of Nakuru Education department statistics, the Program has seen improved nutrition and learning among young learners.

But the program has also created employment opportunities for over 1,000 cooks across the county.
A clear indicator that Governor Kihika has education sector at heart and more so the ECDE centres which play key in shaping the foundation of education.
It should be noted that during her campaigns, Governor Kihika vowed to ensure that ECDE centres welfare is looked into.
Lishe na Mama Program that incorporates Uji Program is one of the way that Kihika has enabled this.
In addition, several ECDE teachers have been employed on permanent and pensionable terms.
Speaking recently during the inaugural of the teachers, Kihika pointed out that she will continue to work towards a ensuring that more ECDE teachers are employed to boost the sector meeting the required ratio of learner and teachers.
