In an uncommon gesture from a leader, Governor Susan Kihika took time this morning to express appreciation for the dedicated Nakuru County workers responsible for maintaining Nakuru City’s drainage system. In a post on her official Facebook page, H.E. Governor Susan Kihika commended the drainage maintenance team from the Department of Infrastructure for their tireless efforts in unblocking drains and culverts within the city. “Taking time to appreciate our drainage maintenance team from the Department of Infrastructure for their tireless efforts,” wrote the Governor, alongside photos of the diligent team at work beside pictures of cleared drains.

“Your dedication to ensuring Nakuru’s drainage system runs smoothly is making a real difference in our community. Your relentless efforts keep our city flood-free and safeguard the well-being of our residents. Your work might often go unnoticed, but the impact is felt throughout Nakuru,” the Governor added. The message comes just days following the celebration of Mashujaa Day, recognizing the team’s invaluable work and celebrating their unwavering commitment.

While unblocking drains and culverts may not be the most glamorous aspect of governance, it is undoubtedly one of the most vital, particularly for urban residents. Governor Kihika’s acknowledgment of this hardworking team highlights the significance of appreciating the unsung heroes who work diligently behind the scenes to maintain essential infrastructure, ensuring that residents can carry on with their daily lives without concerns of clogged or damaged drainage systems.

“Thank you for your relentless commitment to making our city better. Keep working hard, and together we’ll build a more resilient and vibrant Nakuru,” the Governor concluded.

The drainage maintenance team comprises 12 dedicated youths continuously working to maintain the drainage system within Nakuru Town East and Nakuru Town West sub-counties. Given the recent heavy rainfall in Nakuru, their efforts have been pivotal in preventing inconvenience for Nakuru City’s residents.

This gesture by the Governor sets a positive example for leadership in the region. It demonstrates her appreciation for the local workforce’s contributions, promotes teamwork, and underscores the significance of upholding critical infrastructure. Ultimately, it conveys a message that the government is responsive to the needs of its citizens and is committed to tangible enhancements in their lives.

Grace Wanjiru, a businesswoman in Nakuru Town, points out, “When a leader takes the time to appreciate junior staff, it demonstrates their commitment to recognizing and valuing the efforts of every team member. This recognition not only boosts the morale and motivation of the staff but also fosters a sense of belonging and teamwork. This encourages a culture of appreciation and recognition that can significantly improve overall job satisfaction and productivity. By acknowledging the contributions of these staff, the Governor inspires better performance, employee loyalty, and a positive work environment. This exemplifies effective leadership.”
