Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has urged Nakuru residents to register for Social Health Authority(SHA).
Speaking at Nakuru Boys High School on Sunday during economic empowerment program for Nakuru Town East, Governor Kihika assures residents that the new health insurance scheme is working and urged residents to come out and register.
This, she said will go a long way in ensuring all residents are able to access quality healthcare services whenever they fall sick.
“I can for sure confirm that SHA is working. I urge residents to register in large numbers. We also look forward in the next financial year to fund the most vulnerable households,” she stated.
Governor Kihika also used the moment to highlight some of the key projects she has initiated in the health docket in Nakuru.
She noted that progress continues with Muguga Dispensary nearing full operation and equipment being installed at Menengai’s new 16-bed Maternity facility.
Meanwhile, Kihika’s administration has enhanced services at Lanet, Bondeni, and Langalanga, Sub County hospitals to ease pressure on Nakuru Level 5 Hospital.
In addition, the county government of Nakuru has ensured introduction of 24-hour services at Langa Langa and Mirugi Kariuki hospitals.
Kihika added that the education sector in Nakuru has also realized key milestones under her leadership.
This include Sh440 million bursary allocation—of which Sh36 million directly benefited 5,011 learners in Nakuru Town East.
“Under the Lishe na Mama program, fortified porridge is now provided to ECDE learners, while vocational training students receive Sh30,000 in capitation support,” she said.
Kihika also highlighted that on economic empowerment, distribution of kienyeji chicks has taken place and the County has invested Sh100 million into the Enterprise and Cooperative Funds, drilled boreholes, installed cabro pavements, high mast lighting, street lights and upgrading county housing by removing harmful asbestos replacing it with iron sheets.
On matters digitization, Governor Kihika was categorical that connectivity and digital inclusion have also advanced, with free WiFi now available at Wakulima Market, Nasher and top market and at Lions Gardens.
In her speech, Kihika also appreciated the President’s support for completing Afraha and Olenguruone stadiums, Affordable housing and Modern markets.
She also welcomed the news that work is on track on the Rironi–Mau Summit dual carriageway that is set to commence end month.
Governor Kihika pointed out that her development record in Nakuru is very clear and urged residents to give her a second term come 2027.
