Governor Kihika to work with MCAs on plan to reduce fees paid by learners in Day Schools

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has vowed to work closely with members of the County Assembly towards ensuring education for all.

Speaking in Nakuru East Sub County on Friday April 24, 2026 during the launch of the first tranche of this Financial Year’s Nakuru County Bursary disbursement, Kihika was categorical that her administration remains committed towards promoting education in Nakuru.

She announced that besides bursary funds, she will work closely with MCAs to reduce fees payable by learners in Day Schools.

“To further promote education in Nakuru County, I will work closely with MCAs to reduce fees payable by students in day schools,” stated Kihika.

Meanwhile, the Governor also revealed that her administration will soon begin providing ECDE learners with uniforms tailored by Nakuru VTCs, continue the Uji Programme, and sustain the Sh30,000 capitation for VTC learners.

It should be noted that in Nakuru Town East Sub-county a total  KSh27,195,500 has been disbursed as bursary.

A total of 5,582 students from the Sub-county were awarded bursaries, with a number of them receiving full scholarships.

Kihika used the moment to also outline key development projects in the area, including the upgrading of Menengai Dispensary to a Health Centre with a maternity wing, equipping ECDE centres, the ongoing construction of a polytechnic in Kwa Murogi, gravelling and upgrading of roads under the Imarisha Barabara Programme, slum upgrading under the KISIP Programme, and the construction of a sewerage system.
