Governor Kihika calls for fresh testing of fish in Lake Nakuru to ascertain if safe for consumption

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has called for fresh testing of fish from Lake Nakuru to ascertain whether they are safe for human consumption.

Kihika made the call on Wednesday March 11, 2026 when she joined Martime Affairs, Mining and Blue Economy CS Hassan Joho abd Muslim community leaders in Nakuru for Iftar dinner at a Nakuru hotel.

The Governor lauded and welcomed CS Joho’s pledgw to promote aquaculture in Nakuru.

She stated that training and licensing young people in fishing, and supplying fish cages and fingerlings is key towards economic empowerment.

CS Joho assured that hia Ministry will provide rescue boats for lakes in Nakuru and unveil a roadmap for mineral exploitation across Nakuru County beginning very soon.

Meanwhile, Governor Kihika assured Muslim community in Nakuru of her support.

“I deeply value the Muslim community and appreciate their contribution to the economy and stability of our great county. I will continue to support and ensure full inclusion within my administration in Nakuru County,” she said.

From education and health to agriculture and environmental work, Kihika noted that Muslims serve across the County Government.

She revealed that processing of title deeds for mosques continues actively countywide.

On his side, Joho also pledged to organise a fundraiser for constructing a mosque in Bondeni Estate, alongside an empowerment harambee supporting women groups from across Nakuru County.

The event was attended by MPs David Gikaria(NTE), Irene Njoki(Bahati) and Samuel Arama(NTW), UDA Secretary General Omar Hassan, CECs Stephen Kuria and Zipporah Wambui, Chief Officers Francis Njoroge, Victor Achoka, Martin Kagai, Gladys Kamuren and Margaret Kinyanjui.
