Government declares parts of Trans Mara West, Trans Mara South as security-disturbed and dangerous

Government has declared parts of Trans Mara West and Trans Mara South as security-disturbed and dangerous for a period of 30 days.

Interior and National Coordination Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen says this is a measure to address the prevailing security situation in Narok County.

“I have declared parts of Trans Mara West and Trans Mara South as security-disturbed and dangerous for a period of 30 days,” he said.

This declaration according to Murkomen will allow security operations to be scaled up and peace-building interventions to be rolled out in earnest.

A dawn-to-dusk curfew is already in force, and security presence in the affected areas has been significantly enhanced.

This even as calm is gradually returning, even as Government continue engaging local leaders and security stakeholders to address the root causes of the conflict.

The Government remains committed to ensuring that the communities, which have for a long time lived together in peace and harmony, bring an end to the current animosities and fully embrace peaceful co-existence.
