The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has warned public entities against paying terminal dues to holders of fake academic certificates resigning from government to evade recovery of fraudulent salaries.
In a circular issued on Monday March 11, 2024, all national and county public entities have been warned.
They are required to halt ongoing payment of terminal benefits to public officers found with forged academic certificates who are resigning or seeking early retirement from Government.
According to EACC, the scheme by the suspects is calculated to defeat justice noting that salaries and benefits earned on the basis of forged academic certificates are recoverable in full.
The Commission is also investigating reports that some public officials with forged academic certificates, especially in the counties, are enjoying protection of their employers.
To avert loss of public funds while investigations continue, no Accounting/ Authorized officer should process benefits including; pension, unpaid allowances and/or accrued leave to persons found to have used fraudulent academic qualifications to gain employment in the public service.
