Dust yet to settle on Kihika’s presidential campaign team appointment

Susan Kihika, the appointee to the National Presidential Campaign Team is a divisive figure according to a cross section of leaders in Nakuru and the President should reconsider their choice for the nominee.

Addressing media in Nakuru, the leaders want the president and his Deputy to consult elders in the county for a nominee that will help unify the citizenry in the county which they say is a cosmopolitan.

Led by James Karimi, the leaders are opposed to the nomination of Nakuru county assembly Speaker Susan Kihika saying she lacks requisite political experience to champion common political interests in the county.

“The President should reconsider their nominee for the presidential Campaign. Nakuru County is cosmopolitan and we need a person who will unify the citizens and end this noise we are hearing about the nominee” he said.

However speaker Kihika has told off those against her appointment to the presidential campaign saying she is up to the work and that she would not allow intimidation from anyone.

Kihika who has announced her interest in the Nakuru Senatorial seat said she will drive the agenda of Jubilee party and that her new appointment should not be mixed with her political interests in Nakuru.

“Let us not mix political interests with my new appointment to lead the Presidential Campaign and am up to the job” she said.

Last month President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto appointed Kihika among other 11 individuals to steer presidential campaign activities in rift valley region.

This move was met with stiff resistance from veteran politicians who consider Kihika inexperienced to undertake such a daunting role in what is widely expected to be highly competitive jubilee politics early next year.

The appointment of Kihika has divided the membership of the incumbent party in Nakuru right in the middle as politicians opposed to her choose to support the party and its party leaders Uhuru Kenyatta and William Rutto away from Kihika`s initiatives in galvanizing the party.
