Residents of Dundori ward in Bahati sub County of Nakuru County will no longer walk longer distances while seeking medical services once the ongoing construction of a Level 4 health facility at Githioro is complete.
The multi-million facility that is almost phase one complete will go a long way in addressing the challenges that the locals have been facing having to walk longer distances to seek services such as maternity in neighboring Kiamaina Ward.
It will house maternity wing wards as well as other specialized clinics to attend to the needs of the people of Dundori.
According to Community Health workers from Dundori Ward, women have been going through a lot of difficulties while seeking maternity services.
Led by Ms Lydia Mwangi, the CHVs are now optimistic that with the completion of the multi-million facility, such challenges will then be a thing of the past.
They lauded the area MCA Machembu and the county government of Nakuru for allowing such a project that will go a long way in addressing their challenges on matters of health.
“As CHVs in this area we have been seeing what women go through when seeking services but with this facility in place we are sure such challenges will be a thing of past” she said.
Supervisor of the project Erastus Kuria revealed that the first phase of the project has seen sh25 million spent.
He is optimistic that by the end of the year then the first phase of the project will be complete.
“This is one of the larger projects in Nakuru that we were given to work on and we are optimistic that by end of the year we shall have completed it,”he said.
Area MCA Michael Machembu is the initiator of the project that was also subjected to public participation.
Machembu says the whole project that includes phase one and two is worth 60 million and will go a long way in addressing the challenges that women in the area have been facing while seeking medical services.
He lauded the county government of Nakuru and leadership for allowing the project.
“This is a milestone project for the people of Dundori ward who have been travelling longer distances to seek medical services” said Machembu.
