Drug abuse, premarital sex and child labor have been cited as major challenges affecting education standards in Rongai and Mogotio sub counties.
This emerged during schools heads’ consultative meeting held at Sarambei in Rongai Sub County.In order to address the same, the schools heads in the area have formed a committee to see on how to address the issues in order to raise the standards of education in the area.
Addressing media after the consultative meeting on Tuesday, Mogotio Primary Head teacher Mrs. Shivega Tabitha said they have resolved to address the matter at school level, church level, barazas and all stakeholders’ involvement.
While noting that education was the only way to transform the society, she said it was paramount to address the challenges facing pupils and students in Rongai and Mogotio Sub Counties.
“We have discussed the challenges affecting the education in our areas and as we leave this place we have resolved that we shall address the same at school level, church level, and barazas and involve all stakeholders. We all need to work in supporting the government agenda on education” said Mrs.Shivega.
While commending Dandelion Africa-an NGO working in Mogotio and Rongai sub counties to address issues of sexual reproduction in schools, she also challenged parents in the area to ensure they take up full responsibility when it comes to matters of parenting.
Sentiments echoed by one of the administrators at Dandelion Africa Mr.Harun Karanja adding that they will do a follow-up on the same with the school heads to see to it that matters of reproductive health are addressed in schools.
According to the Dandelion administrator, they will also have sensitization programs in schools to help the students and pupils make the right choices.
“We will follow-up with this group of heads, we will also ensure sensitization on the same in our schools so that our kids can make the right choices” said Mr.Karanja.
The meeting was also attended by health department, security sector as well as representatives from the vocational training-all with one agenda to raise the standards of education in Rongai and Mogotio sub counties.
