DP Kindiki flags off 2026 Safari Rally Edition in Naivasha

Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki on Thursday March 12, 2026 flagged off this year’s edition of Kenya World  Safari Rally in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

The event took place at the Kenya Wildlife Research and Training Institute.

Cabinet Secretaries Salim Mvurya (Sports) and Rebecca Miano (Tourism) also graced the occasion.

Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika welcomed the drivers, rally teams, and Safari Rally enthusiasts to Nakuru County.

It should be noted that Nakuru County is the host of the world’s greatest rally.

“We are blessed with an exceptional county that offers the perfect mix to test the resilience of top-notch motor vehicle engineering: rugged terrain, unpredictable weather, wildlife encounters, and a warm, hospitable population,” stated Kihika.

The Governor commended the organizers for selecting Nakuru County to host this event.

More than 80 million people globally are expected to watch the rally that concludes on Sunday.

Kihika was impressed by the number of women drivers taking part in the rally, especially the mother and daughter duo of Caroline and Tinashe Gatimu.

She wished them luck in the touch encounter and for being a good example to daughters of Nakuru County and Kenya as a whole.

“I am pleased that the event serves as a major boost to our tourism sector, local traders, and contractors,” she said.

The Governor used the moment to urge motor vehicle manufacturers to partner with Nakuru County in strengthening the training curriculum in mechanical and electrical engineering within Nakueh County Vocational Training Centres (VTCs).

She affirmed that her administration remain open to collaborations aimed at transforming the VTC training landscape in Nakuru County.
