CS Murkomen issues stern warning to errant road users

Errant road users accross the country have been put on notice.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen says the law will face up with those who do not adhere to simple traffic rules and regulations.

The CS has further directed the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to work with the National Police Service to intensify enforcement and bring errant road users to justice.

He was speaking on Sunday March 3 when he joined other leaders in fundraising for Karia Catholic Church in Nyeri County.

He called on Kenyans to support government initiatives meant to restore sanity on roads.

“It is sad that every year, we lose too many lives because of avoidable road accidents. If drivers and passengers follow established road rules, our roads will be safer,” he said.

According to Murkomen, statistics show that most accidents occur due to unsafe road user behaviours like overloading, speeding, unsafe crossing, and drunk driving.

It is for this reason that he called for collective responsibility in ensuring road safety.

“Passengers should always wear seatbelts and report PSV drivers who are driving under the influence. Matatu and boda boda drivers should also stick to the maximum passenger capacity and speed limits to safeguard the lives of the passengers they carry,” he said.

Meanwhile the CS assured Government’s commitment to completing all the pending roads across the country progressively.
