Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha on Monday morning led the 100 percent transition mop-up exercise in Nakuru West sub county, Nakuru County.
Addressing media at Nakuru West Secondary where 10 needy students among the over 30 identified in Nakuru West will be admitted, the CS revealed that already through the government initiative the transition rate from Primary to secondary stands at 96 percent.
He was however quick to cite that the government is doing all that can be done to ensure the 100 percent transition is achieved.
This, he said among other mechanisms is collaboration between the Teachers Service Commission, the local administration and the Ministry.
Prof.Magoha calling on all Nakuru residents of goodwill to ensure that they support the needy students get uniforms so that they can go on with their education.
“Today we are here at Kaptembwa to ensure that all children transit to Secondary schools. We are at 96 percent but I have no doubt in my mind that by this evening we shall hit at the very worst 97 percent at the very best 98 percent” said CS Magoha.
The CS also taking the moment to warn school heads who have tendency of denying chance to students due to lack of school fees or charging extra amounts.
He says the policies put in place should be followed by all school heads to ensure that all students are in school.
“This government is run by President Kenyatta and he has given policies which should be followed. Any school head who contravenes the same should be exempted from the teaching profession” he said.
Rift valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya who accompanied the CS on his part assuring that they will work with other stakeholders to ensure government policies on education are implemented.
The RC however appealing to the State Department of Special Programs to ensure a food program for slum students.He says this will ensure children concentrate on their education while in school.
“We are working in collaboration with other stakeholders to ensure the policies are implemented. We however appeal to the government to ensure food program for slum area students” said Natembeya.
Ms Eunice Moraa-a mother whose son scored 235 marks at Kaptembwa Primary could not hide her joy after she learnt that through government intervention he could join Nakuru West Secondary.
Addressing media at the school,Ms Moraa narrated how she has been struggling to ensure the son is in school.
“I am happy that my son will now join secondary” she said.
The son Nelson Moraa Moracha also proud to join Nakuru West Secondary.
He dreams of becoming engineer.“I am very happy to join secondary and when I grow up I would like to be engineer” said Moracha.
The script is similar for Anne Achieng’ from Kipanga estate,Rhonda who scored 196 marks and was to join Tumaini Secondary in Nakuru West.
However, lack of school fees almost shuttered her dreams but now with the government intervention she will be joining the school.
