Major tourist hotels in Nakuru town have now started sending workers home with some closing down as a result of the COIVD-19 pandemic.
A spot check across the hotels revealed little activity with a few having only their bars in operation.
Most Nakuru hotels rely on tourists who come to visit the Lake Nakuru national park or those on transit to either Maasai Mara or other attraction sites in Baringo.
The most affected hotels are high end hotels which rely entirely on tourists and conferences by county and national governments as well as non-governmental organizations .
Majority of the hotels are registering zero activity as the country continues to grapple with the increasing spread of the corona virus that ash so far affected 25 persons.
Among the major hotels that are likely to close shop albeit temporary include Sarova woodlands ,Merica ,Waterbuck,Ole-Ken and Cathy hotels.
An insider at one of the hotels said that they have been registering losses keeping staff at work without making any business.
He said that the hotel is preparing to fully shut down incise the government orders a total lock down of the country as a measure of containing the spread of COVID-19
The closure of hotels is likely to have huge economic effects on the hundreds of workers employed therein.
