County trains Red-cross staff as Corona virus preparedness steps up

In a bid to enhance Covid-19 Coronavirus outbreak preparedness, the County Government of Nakuru has trained Kenya Red Cross paramedics and volunteers on handling suspected cases.

Public Health Chief Officer Mr. Samuel King’ori said the training was part of collaboration in strengthening technical and logistical capacities in Nakuru County for better response in emergencies.

The team was drawn from all sub-County branches in Nakuru and are the first responders whenever there is an emergency operation as well as training local communities on lifesaving skills.

According to Kingo’ri, the Health Department has so far trained over 400 healthcare workers on handling Covid-19 Coronavirus cases. Other training programs are ongoing across the County.

Nakuru is among the 37 counties across the country which have established functional isolation units.Nakuru has two isolation units, one at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital and the second at the Naivasha sub-County Referral Hospital with enough personal protective equipment and drugs.

Nakuru residents have been urged to remain calm, wash hands regularly with running water and sanitizers and seek immediate medical attention should one develop Coronavirus-related symptom.

The County Government of Nakuru has dedicated emergency numbers where residents can reach medical team to report any suspected case.

The numbers are 0724 320 853 and 0722 337 018.
