The County Government of Nakuru has embarked on restocking in Lake Solai and other water sources within the County.
Through the Department of agriculture, the Lake received 15,000 tilapia and 11,000 catfish fingerlings.
While touring the Lake, Agriculture CEC Dr. Immaculate Maina said the County Government will set apart breeding areas to protect the fingerlings.
She added that various interventions have been put in place including having closed fishing seasons, use of specific fishing equipment and restocking to manage the fish populations.
Training will also be conducted to residents near water bodies to ensure care and adequate management of the water bodies.
The County Government has allocated Ksh 4 million this financial year against Ksh 2 million in 2018/2019.
Lake Naivasha has also been targeted fro restocking by the county government.
Already the County is setting up a fish hatchery in Naivasha which will help in rearing fingerlings that will be used in restocking water bodies and fish ponds within the county.
The hatchery is expected to save the county millions of shillings used in buying fingerlings from outside the county.
Currently restocking is complete in Naivasha, Molo, Rongai, Kuresoi North and South sub counties.
Nakuru County has been investing in fish farming by training interested farmers across the county.
