The County Government of Nakuru is on a mission to revamp the disaster management department.
CECM Jacqueline Osoro has revealed that several measures are being put in place by Governor Susan Kihika.
Key among them is the continuous training of human resource who will play key role in the department.
Speaking on Friday March 1, 2024 during graduation of first cohort of trained firefighters, Osoro noted that the issue of shortage of human resource at the department will be addressed.
“Under the leadership of Governor Susan Kihika, I want to assure you that the issues of shortage of human resource in the Disaster Management department will be addressed soon,” she said.
According to the CECM, Permanent and Pensionable terms are being negotiated and that those who will not get the slots will be absorbed on contracts through the Public Service Board.
She urged those interested to apply immediately the department advertises the jobs.
The CECM also challenged those tasked with various responsibilities within the department to serve diligently
She vowed to have a meeting with county assembly committee on disaster management so as to ensure more allocation of resources through budget to all the 55 wards.
Besides training, the county government through the current CIDP has committed towards establishing fire stations in all the 11 sub-counties.
Currently, only 3 fire stations are in place in Nakuru City, Molo and Naivasha.
The CIDP also advocates for more fire engines as a way of improving response to disasters whenever they strike.
