The construction of Lanet Airport will soon resume.
President William Ruto has assured residents of Nakuru that the works will resume soon.
Speaking during a meeting with leaders at Statehouse Nakuru on Tuesday October 28, 2025, the Head of State revealed that the construction is expected to be completed by end of February 2026.
According to President Ruto, once completed, the Airport will serve both military and civilian purposes.
The President made the remarks in response to Governor Susan Kihika’s requests over the same.
Ruto also used the moment to confirm that the resumption of the Itare Dam project remains a top priority, and that basic infrastructure at the Naivasha Special Economic Zone will be developed with funding from AfriExim Bank to create an ecosystem of industries in Naivasha.
Meanwhile, a total of 2.6 billion has been allocated for the tarmacking of 230 kilometres of roads in Nakuru County, including the Jogoo–Tangi Tano–Canaan Road and the Kasarani–Kongoni–Ndabibi Road.
During the Statehouse meeting in Nakuru, Governor Kihika lauded President Ruto, on his second day of tour, for his immeasurable support and timely interventions towards Nakuru, and assured him of our unwavering commitment to the economic and social transformation of our County.
She also used the moment to outline ongoing projects being implemented in partnership with the National Government, among them: the construction of 21 ultra-modern markets; 21,000 housing units under the Affordable Housing Programme; construction of Olenguruone Stadium; Phase 2 of Afraha Stadium; completion of the stalled Trauma Centre at the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital; and the upgrading of key roads to bitumen standards across various parts of the County.
She also highlighted the notable progress made in transforming the healthcare sector through the expansion of facilities and improvement of service delivery; enhancing agricultural productivity by prioritizing key value chains; constructing ultra-modern markets; and providing low-interest credit through the Wezesha Fund.
Other achievements under Kihika’s administration include increasing clean water coverage to 62.3 per cent, expanding ECDE centres, successful implementation of the Uji Programme, disbursement of bursaries and capitation funds in VTCs, and processing of title deeds for more than 20 market centres and settlement schemes.
Kihika reaffirmed that Nakuru County will continue to support President Ruto and the strong partnership with the National Government.
