Community engagement at Beles Qooqani

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) at Belles Qooqani, participated in various community engagement activities with the area residents.

This was in a bid to cement close working relations with the locals in the region.

In the conduct of the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), widows in the town were supported with a means of livelihood, including livestock for rearing.

Education as a bastion of development was also given priority as the troops handed over learning material to the local administration and school management of Beles Qooqani Primary School. Books and other stationery were donated to help improve the education standards in the region.

Thereafter, the troops held a Peace football match that brought Beles Qooqani town to a standstill in extended celebrations after the local football club won against the ATMIS team.

Making his remarks after the tournament, Officer Commanding (OC) Beles Qooqani Major Saningo Leiyan thanked both teams for the fair play and cohesion exhibited during the match.

He further encouraged the cultivation of cordial relations among the residents who have been supportive of achieving the ATMIS mandate.
