Chinese National charged with assaulting an employee

A Chinese national was on Thursday charged before a Nakuru Court with assaulting an employee at a construction site in London estate, Nakuru County.

Lu Aizong who appeared before Resident Magistrate Faith Munyi is accused of assaulting Kefa Ogicha with a stone after a confrontation between the two.

He was charged with assaulting Ogicha who was in execution of duties contrary to the law. The court heard that the accused committed the offense on July 29.

The complainant who lodged a complaint with the police accused Mr Aizong of kicking and slapping him after he confronted for allegedly not paying him.

Aizong denied the charges and was released on a Sh 20,000 bond, a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Sh 10,000 pending hearing of the matter.

Mr Aizong is part of a construction crew contracted to construct roads at London Estate and had hired Mr Ogicha to work for them where he received his pay on a daily basis.

The project seeks to pave 22 kilometers of roads diverting from the major highway, a development expected to reduce the number of vehicles that pass through the town’s center.

Aizong told the court that on the day of the incident, the complainant went to work on a Sunday which was not a working day but demanded to be paid.

He added that he had asked him to leave several times but he refused which compelling him to call security officers to remove him adding that he was paid for his work but was asked not to come back and that is when he got angry and refused to leave.

The hearing date of the case has been set for October 29.
