Centre for Enhancing Democracy and Good Governance(CEDGG) has commenced ‘City Board Mashinani’ forums.

This is a platform for engaging representatives from the Nakuru City Board, Ward Administrators, MCAs, and members of community.
Speaking during the first meeting held in Kivumbini Ward on April 7, 2026, facilitaors Julius Kibathi and Vincent Tanui from CEDGG stated that the forums provide a practical platform for citizens to follow up on the status of ongoing projects, with residents directly engaging duty bearers and receiving timely feedback on implementation progress.

He added that, similar frouns will be held in all the wards within Nakuru East and Nakuru West Sub Counties.
Kivumbini Ward Budget Champion Francis Shinali lauded CEDGG for the move.
He pointed out that through such, citizens are empowered to do social audit and oversight on projects.
“This is a great platform towards empowering citizens and ensuring improved service delivery,” stated Shinali.

The meeting also created space for joint action planning, where participants identified key projects and service delivery issues that require follow-up, alongside clear timelines for action.
Kivumbini Ward Administrator Rose Wanjiku on her part encouraged residents to up their oversight role.
She also challenged them to take matters budget process serious by attending not only during proposals, but also the validation.

During the forum, residents were encouraged to prepare for the upcoming public participation process for the next financial year, using the session to outline priority needs that should inform future budget allocations.
It should be noted that as Nakuru continues to operate as a city, the City Board Mashinani initiative is proving to be a timely approach to deepen public understanding of the role of the Nakuru City Board and its linkage to service delivery.
The ‘City Board Mashinani’ forums are Convened under the Amplifying Marginalized Voices for Equitable Development in Nakuru County (AMVED) project, supported by the Irish Embassy in Kenya, a project being implemented by CEDGG.
According Julius Kibathi, the engagement reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen structured dialogue between citizens and key governance institutions while advancing accountability in the budget process.

Kivumbini Ward MCA Neto Sakwa who was also in attendance, commended CEDGG gor organizing such forums.
According to the MCA, this will go a long way in empowering citizens on matters budget process, projects implementation and their role in putting duty bearers alert as far as service delivery is concerned.
