Candle lighting memorial service held in honour of Nakuru-born KDF Captain Litali who perished in chopper crash alongside CDF General Ogolla, 8 other gallant soldiers

Residents of Nakuru County on Sunday April 21, 2024 evening joined for a candle lighting memorial to honour the Nakuru-born KDF Captain Hillary Litali who lost his life in the chopper crash that also claimed CDF General Francis Omondi Ogola and 8 others.

It should be noted that Captain Hillary Litali’s home is in Shabab Nakuru and he’s amongst the 10 military officers who passed away in the incident where

Kenya’s highest ranking military officer General Francis Omondi Ogolla died in the helicopter crash where only two people survived.
Those killed include Brig Swaleh Saidi, Col Duncan Keitany, Lt Col David Sawe, Major George Benson Magondu (who was also the pilot), Capt Sorah Mohamed, Senior Sergeant John Kinywa Mureithi, Sergent Cliffonce Omondi and Sergent Rose Nyawira.
The incident occurred shortly after takeoff in the country’s northwest, with Gen Ogolla among the 12 occupants.
The Kenya Defence Force’s helicopter crashed on Thursday April 18 afternoon at Sindar area, Kaben location, Tot division, in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The deceased were flown to Nairobi, while two survivors received medical attention.

Nakuru County Trade Executive Member Stephen Kuria, on behalf of Governor Susan Kihika, joined Nakuru residents and Kenya Defense Force officers for the candle-lighting ceremony at Nyayo Gardens.

This solemn event honoured Kenya’s Defense Force Chief, Francis Ogolla and the nine other military personnel who tragically lost their lives in the helicopter crash.

Kuria conveyed the governor’s heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and the Kenya Defense Force, assuring them of the governor’s support during this difficult period.

He emphasized the significant impact of the loss on the nation.
The candle-lighting exercise, marking the conclusion of a three-day mourning period, also provided an opportunity for residents to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers.
Kuria was accompanied by MCA’s Fadhili Msuri (Biashara), Catherine Mwangi (Nominated), and David Wathiai (Shabab), all of whom shared in the collective sorrow over the tragedy.
