Drama was witnessed in Matanya village of Kabatini Ward in Nakuru County after residents halted funeral ceremony demanding answers over illicit brew menace in the area.
The locals had attended the burial of a youth by the name Martin Njoroge whose succumbed after what is suspected to be consumption of illicit brew in the area.
Led by Evans Mwangi, the locals pointed an accusing finger at local administrators and police for failing to address the menace that has continued to claim lives of young people.
“It is saddening that many lives of young people are lost in this area due to illicit brew yet the government cannot address the same” he said.
Sentiments echoed by the deceased’s sister Susan Wanjiku in an emotional statement to the press called on the government to step in and arrest the situation.
According to her, illicit brew menace has been derailing development in the area, an issue she said the government should act.
“I am in grief over the death of my brother.I just pray that the government will step in to address the issue of illicit brew which is rampant in this area” said Wanjiku.
