Boost to Kenya’s green industrial transformation as President Ruto commissions construction of the KenGen-Kaishan Olkaria Green Fertiliser Plant

President William Ruto on Monday November 3, 2025 Broke ground for the construction of the KenGen-Kaishan Olkaria Green Fertiliser Plant in Nakuru County; a defining moment for Kenya’s green industrial transformation.

“This venture is a historic stride for Kenya, and indeed for Africa, as we boldly match our words with tangible action in advancing sustainable manufacturing,” he stated.

The KSh100 billion Olkaria project is a powerful symbol of what happens when energy, technology, and vision unite in purpose.

It will produce more than 480,000 tonnes of fertiliser annually, ensuring our farmers have a reliable, affordable, and locally produced supply.

“And that is only the beginning. This life-changing initiative will create over 2,000 jobs, cut our import bill by more than KSh60 billion each year, and reinforce Kenya’s place at the forefront of green growth and climate-smart innovation on the continent,” stated President Ruto.

The event was also graced Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, Nakuru Deputy Governor David Kones among others.
