Bio Tank Africa launches new branch in Nakuru to address existing sanitation gap

Bio Tank Africa has officially opened a new branch in Nakuru in a move aimed to address the exisiting sanitation gap.

The new branch situated at Shayona Business Centre in Pipeline adjacent to the busy Nakuru-Nairobi Highway was opened on Friday April 10, 2026.

The opening of the new branch is a boost to Nakuru County in terms of addressing challenges of sanitation.

According to statistics, Nakuru has a sanitation problem with only 3.4% of its 2.16 million residents currently  connected to sewerage.

Over 65% of human waste goes untreated yet the county is building faster than ever and expanding even as the third city in the country.

Nakuru’s growth is outpacing its infrastructure and this has a great impact on families on matters sewerage as well as developers.

However, Bio Tank Africa is coming in to change that equation with its first regional office now operational.

Speaking during the official opening of the Nakuru Branch, Bio Tank Africa Founder and General Manager Mr. Edwin Kirugo stated that his vision is to see solutions on matters sanitation through the Biodigester tanks.

He revealed that he founded the company in 2018 when he realized that he had a house constructed but no afgordable septic solutions.

Though it was a personal problem, it has now grown into a bigger solutions to many Kenyans.

He stated that his personal problem of unaffordable septic solutions grew into an idea that gave birth to affordable biodigesters and waste management solutions.

According to Kirugo, the company is now operating in 3 branches and will expand to other counties especially western region where customers are demanding services.

“It began as a personal problem but is now given birth to national solutions to matters sanitation,” he said.

The Company’s products include: Bio Tank Biodigesters, Grease Trap Pro, Bio Clean Septic Tank Cleaner, and Tazo Natural Home Cleaning Products.

Nakuru County CECM for Environment Nelson Maara lauded the company for such innovative that will help address challenges facing Nakuru City and Nakuru County as a whole.

He pointed out that sanitation in terms of sewerage has been a challenge, but with the new technology and partnerships, then it will be a thing of past.

Addressing during the event, CECM Maara assured of partnership between the County Government and Bio Tank Africa and called on Nakuru residents to embrace the technology.

“We all know issues of sanitation in our City and County at large has had challenges. But eith such innovations, then we are proud that we are headed the right direction. As a County we shall partner towards improving our sanitation,” he said.

Sentiments echoed by Nakuru County Assembly Deputy Speaker  who is also the MCA for Nakuru East Ward Anthony Kanyere Geru.

He lauded Bio Tank Africa for opening the office in Nakuru and moreso in his ward Nakuru East.

The MCA admitted that indeed Nakuru has had issues of sanitation due to lack of sewerage connection.

He stated that the company has come timely towards addressing the same.

“We have had sewerage challenges even where I represent 80 percent have no sewerage services. The pit latrines have had negative impact on the borehole water that we depend on and that is why we are proud of our brother from Bio Tank Africa for this technology,” he stated.

The Deputy Speaker was categorical that as Assembly they will partner and push for policies that aim to boost sanitation in Nakuru.

He also challenged young people to work closely with government towards finding solutions in community.

The event was also graced by Nakuru MCAs Peter Kajwang(Kaptembwa), David Wathiai(Shabaab), Michael Gathanwa(Eburru Mbaruk) and Keziah Okumu(Nominated).

They lauded Kirugo for coming up with such technology that will shape lives in Nakuru and moreso in slum areas.

The innovation is a clear illustration how affordable biodigesters can change what is possible for middle-income households and the contractors who build for them.

It should be noted that Edwin Kirugo founded Bio Tank Africa that grew from a personal problem — unaffordable septic solutions — into an affordable biodigesters and waste management solutions company now operating across 3 branches and expanding nationally.

The company will now be holding ‘fundi forums’ in Nakuru aimed at sensitizing on the bew technology and installation process.
