Gilgil Member of Parliament Martha Wangari has called on flower farms to be humane enough towards their workers during this harsh times of COVID-19.
In a statement,the vocal legislator who has been on the forefront in advocating for the rights of women and girls says majority of the working in flower farms are women who are struggling to make ends meet.
Sh slammed a section of leaders advocating for the total lock down, stating that such a move will inconvenience the families that live hand-to-mouth.
“As we even advocate for total lock down let us think of all the families that live hand to mouth.I have flower farms in my constituency that have sent thousands on compulsory leave, guys that make 300 bob a day to keep their families going. That without it, without work they will starve”she said.
The Legislator calling on both levels of government to continue putting in place measures tat will assist the common citizens.
She also appealed to the members of the public to do all they can at personal level to assist those in need during this harsh times.
“Government, both levels, let us put all the savings ( because they will be there) to emergency funds to provide basics for these vulnerable Kenyans.At a personal level, let us be willing to share what we have with the less fortunate”she said.
MP reminding Kenyans to also follow the Government guidelines in preventing Corona virus infection and transmission .
Already through Gilgil NG-CDF mobilization,the MP has been able to put up hand washing stations at various points in Gigil town.
They include; Gilgil Market main gate(Food),Mitumba Main Entrance(Behind Mosque),Crossroad Junction,Nyahururu/Nairobi/Naivasha/Olkalou Stage,Mutiso/Total area,Soko Mjinga,Nairobi Highway Stage,and Nakuru Highway Stage.
