The Tournament that was held to celebrate peace before, during and after elections was sponsored by Project 150 Kenya in conjunction with Radio Yetu and Buraha Zenoni Hotel Resort among others.

Speaking after the trophy award ceremony, Mr. Shem Kariuki from Project 150 Kenya lauded the sponsors of the tournament.

Kariuki added that, such initiatives are key in ensuring young people are sensitized on the importance of being peace ambassadors.

“It’s not about competition, but just an initiative to ensure our young people are not involved in ills in the society. We are here today celebrating peaceful elections because of the message that Young people received during similar events before August Polls” said Kariuki.

This even as several youth involved in the initiative have been assigned mentors to equip them with knowledge in peace and conflict resolution.

According to Kariuki, they will continue to nurture such individuals so that they can continue walking the path of peace ambassadors in the community.

He also used the moment to challenge young people to avert involving themselves in drugs and substance abuse among other crimes but rather work towards self-economic empowerment.

“We have a dream to see a society where young people are peace ambassadors, where young people say no to crime and where young people are economically empowered to be self-reliant” he said.

Similar sentiments echoed by all those who participated in the peace tournament led by Fr.Stephen Kimani of the St.Patrick’s Missionaries.

They lauded the initiative adding that it is through such that young people get opportunity to learn from other peace ambassadors.

“I love football because it is also a form of exercise and ensuring that one is not idle but engaging even the mind. Through such we will have a better society free of crimes” said Fr.Stephen.

Captains of all participating teams challenged young people to engage in sports to nurture their talent, avert drug and substance abuse and discourage tribalism.

Sentiments echoed by Inea Itsimile from Buraha Zenoni Hotel and Resort-one of the sponsors of the event.

He calls on well-wishers to sponsor such initiatives of promoting talents stating that will go a long way in addressing issues of crimes in the society.

“As players in the Hospitality industry we believe in giving back to society and that is why we chose to help nurture talents through such initiatives” he said.
