Asumpta Wangui christened ‘Nakuru Iron Lady’ to contest Woman Rep seat come 2027

When the names of those who have always stood up to advocate for social justice in Nakuru will be written, one name Asumpta Wangui Muiruri will not miss.

Her desire to have a better society where justice prevails has seen her rub shoulders with the who is who in the county and country.

She has been in the corridors of justice seeking to bail out some Kenyans whom she feels are victimized by the mighty in power.

Her strong agitation for the same has seen her become a household name and a darling to many Nakuru residents who liken her to the likes of Martha Karua and Koigi Wa Wamwere who also stood up for justice.

Asumpta is not easily swayed by any forces and she has always used her resources be it in courts just to ensure justice is served.

She recently hit headlines when she was summoned by DCI and grilled for over 4 hours over her alleged intention to mobilize people for SabaSaba.

Speaking after recording a statement with DCI, Asumpta terms such moves as government attempts to silence Kenyans who speak out the ills and atrocities happening in the country.

She vowed not to be intimidated by any forces in her push for social justice.

Asumpta- a businesswoman doubles up as the Secretary General Kenya National Federation of Jua Kali Associations in Nakuru since 2012.

Besides, she is also a politician having made her first attempt in the political space by contesting Nakuru County Woman Representative seat in 2017.

However, she did not make it but this did not deter her ambition, as in 2021 she also unsuccessfully tried the London Ward MCA seat in a by-election following the death of the then MCA Sammy Mbugua.

“I had made efforts reaching out to the government but I felt my voice was not being heard so I felt the best is to be in a political position. Maybe that could work and the government would listen to me,” she says in a past interview.

By then, she was a strong Azimio Coalition supporter in Nakuru County and even became a Chairperson matters Azimio Coalition in Nakuru County.

She believes in Constitutional rights for all hence her urge to continue fighting for social justice as witnessed when she defended contracted workers who were illegally sacked in Nakuru.

Asumpta Wangui has also been on the forefront in calling out the current Government over disrespect to the rule of law, abductions and murder of innocent Kenyans.

The ‘Nakuru Iron Lady’ has revealed that she will be contesting the Nakuru Woman Rep seat come 2027 on Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) that is led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to her true leaders listen to the ground and what the common Mwananchi is going through towards finding amicable solution.

Currently, she has continued to rally youth to ensure they register as voters and make a change in society by electing the right leaders.
