Another Nakuru CEC on spot over sports funds

The fate of Nakuru County CEC for Finance Joseph Kiuna is now in the hands of the Nakuru County MCAs this is after Nakuru County Youths Caucus petitioned his conduct.

The petition is in relation to sports funds (Kshs 30,000 per ward) that were given to Sports officer for teams’ planning to participate in inter-county games.

However it has emerged that the funds were later recalled by the Finance department under unclear circumstances.

Nakuru youths have now raised concerns after it emerged that the funds were returned without any clear signing documents. To make matters worse, this means the Teams’ preparation for the games have been derailed by the move.

Through the petition, the youths want the CEC to be investigated over what they term is misconduct and unclear appropriation of funds which they say may amount to corruption in the finance docket.

Daniel Gitau is the chairman Nakuru County Youth Caucus.“We want the CEC investigated over what is seen as misconduct in his docket so that he does not mess up the Finance department” said Gitau.

The youths while noting that the oversight role has been delegated to the MCAs, they said they will not sit down and watch as individuals mess up the development agenda in Nakuru County.

They said this is in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s move to ensure transparency and accountability among public officers.

Respond to the petition filed by Nakuru Youth against Finance CEC.

“As youths we shall not sit down and watch as a few individuals mess up the development agenda in our county” said Gitau.

Already the county assembly has responded on the same through a letter to Nakuru County Youth Chairman Daniel Gitau.

Through the letter dated 5th December 2018 and undersigned by Mr.Opiyo on behalf of the clerk, the assembly has confirmed receiving the petition.

“……The aforementioned petition was laid before the Assembly and thereafter referred to the Committee on Budget and Appropriation and Finance to investigate and table the findings before the House…” reads part of the response letter.

It goes further to state, “Since the House will break for long recess in accordance with its 2018 Legislative calendar, you will be required to appear before the committee at a time and venue to be communicated when the House resumes”.

If the petition sails through, CEC Kiuna might be forced to bow and leave office just the same way former Nakuru County Sports, Youth and Gender CEC Halima Gababa left over misconduct.
