Several girls in various schools within Biashara Ward have benefited from a sanitary pads donation even as World Marks Menstrual Hygiene Week.
This was made possible through Ann Mwithaga Foundation in partnership with friends.
The distribution to over 10 schools within Biashara Ward of Nakuru East Sub county will go a long way in ensuring girls remain in school even during their menstrual days.
According to Foundation’s Founder Ann Mwithaga, the partners included Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Zachariah Mwangi Njeru, Personal Assistant to the First Gentleman Geoffrey Kamau (also known as Kiongozi Mau), Biashara MCA Fadhli Msuri, and Director Chilli’s Mr. Dan, Genge Ben, Antony Gakuo among others.
Umoja Integrated Primary School, St. Paul Primary School, Ngala Special School for the Deaf, Bondeni, and St. Mary’s School are among the schools that benefited.
Mwithaga added that, this initiative aims to support learners and prevent them from resorting to unsuitable materials during their menstrual cycle.
“This year’s motto, “Keeping girls in school,” underscores the foundation’s commitment to advocating for the girl child,” she stated.
She added that the Ann Mwithaga Foundation will continue to engage in activities that enhance the quality of life for girls in school, emphasizing education as the optimal path to achieving personal goals and self-realization.
She reiterated the importance importance of menstrual hygiene management in promoting gender equality in education and ensuring that girls can attend school comfortably and with dignity.
