The County Government of Nakuru will cover Ms Harriet Akinyi’s business license fee for a whole year.
This gesture is a way of standing in solidarity with Ms Akinyi- a food vendor running Tule Kienyeji Restaurant and whose video went viral appealing for help to sustain her business.
The announcement from the county government was made by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services, Ms. Elga Riaga.
Speaking when she paid a visit to Ms Akinyi, Riaga called on young people across Nakuru County to leverage social media to improve the visibility and accessibility of their businesses, enhance productivity, and expand their customer base.
The CECM lauded Ms. Akinyi for her bold step, noting that platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) can be powerful tools for business growth when used positively.
She encouraged young entrepreneurs to embrace digital platforms to market their products and reach wider audiences.
Ms. Riaga further highlighted the County Government’s commitment to youth empowerment through initiatives such as the Wezesha Fund, alongside national programs like Nyota, which provide financial and technical support to young entrepreneurs.
“Under the leadership of Governor Susan Kihika, the County Government will cover Ms. Akinyi’s business license fee for the entire year as part of its support,” she stated.
Ms. Riaga noted that Ms. Akinyi’s story is a powerful reminder for young people to remain resilient and proactive in the face of challenges.
Ms. Akinyi on her part thanked the County Government and Kenyans for the support, saying the gesture has renewed her hope and encouraged many youths to pursue their dreams.
Following the viral video, Kenyans have continued to throng Tule Kienyeji Restaurant, with many placing food orders while others sent financial support to help sustain and grow the business.
