MIDRIFT HURINET on Wednesday January 21, 2026 held Youth-led Education Forum in Kivumbini Ward on voter registration.

The Youth-led Education Forum is aimed at sensitizing youth to register as voters as well as rally them to actively get involved in electoral process.

It is implemented under the Project dubbed ‘Peace, Accountability and Community Empowerment.’

Speaking during the event, Project Monitoring Officer at MIDRIFT HURINET Ms Leslie Rono pointed out that the move is key in reaching out to young people and ebsuring they register as voters.

According to her, this is the only way that the voice of the youth can be heard through ballot.

While noting that young people have been left behind for many years, Ms Leslie stated that gone are the days when young people could be used by politicians for personal political mileage.

“We are emphasizing that youth should come out and register as voters so that they can bring about change needed,” she said.

According to her, youth participated fully in the protests in 2024 and 2025 calling out bad governance.

She was however quick to note that through the engagement at grassroot, they are encouraging youth to ensure that they fully participate in electoral process.

“We know they participated in protests to call out bad governance, but we are urging them to register as voters so that they can make change through ballot,” stated Leslie.

The youth-led voter education forum shall also be rolled out in Flamingo, London and Barut Wards.

Sentiments echoed by Nakuru County IEBC Coordinator Dr. Joseph Melle.

According to him, statistics indicate that young people are yet to register in large numbers.

He challenged youth in Nakuru to come out abd register as voters so that they can participate in their constituional right as per Article 38 of the Constitution of Kenya.

“We are telling young peoole that they have to register as voters. They have a right to vote, but they can only do so if they are voters as per the IEBC data,” he said.

During the forum, Dr. Melle also had time to respond to some of the questions and concerns raised by the youth.

He assured them that IEBC is and will contonue to adhere to high levels of accountability in electoral process.

Hamza Ramadhan- a Youth Champion from Bondeni Estate is among those who were trained by MIDRIFT HURINET on matters peace, security.

He reiterated the importance of youth in matters peace.

“Young people are key and that is why we are telling them they have to register as voters. Registration as a voter is key as is citizens’ rights as per article 38 of CoK to participate in electoral process. Using art among youth to spread peace and cohesion messages at grassroot has been successful,” he said.

He used the moment to rally youth to actively take part in electoral process by resgistering as voters.

According to him, participation of youth in electoral process will ensure better policies in place, policies that touch directly on their rights.

The Forum was also attended by Chief Ali Nur of Bondeni Location, Area Senior Asst Chief Jane Muthoni and her Bondeni counterpart Timothy Kitetu.

The Local Administrators urged youth to shub drugs and substance abuse.

They also used the moment to highlight on NYOTA Program urging youth to embrace by the same.
