Police FC dethrone Gor Mahia to clinch maiden FKF-Premier League Title

In a historic milestone, Police FC have been crowned the 2024–2025 FKF Premier League champions, securing their first-ever top-flight title. The decisive match, held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, saw Police FC go head-to-head with defending champions Gor Mahia FC in a thrilling encounter that drew large crowds and national attention.

The match kicked off at 1500 hours, with Police FC showing early intent. In the opening minute, Brian Okoth almost broke the deadlock with a diving header from a Tyson Otieno corner, only for it to be cleared off the line.

Despite a dominant start by Police, Gor Mahia struck first in the 21st minute, with Shariff Musa putting them ahead. Police nearly equalised in the 36th minute, but David Simiyu’s shot went just wide. The first booking came in the 44th minute, with Gor’s Alpha Onyango receiving a yellow card for a foul.

The second half resumed with equal intensity. Gor Mahia picked up another yellow card in the 50th minute, before Police made a tactical double substitution in the 55th minute. The move paid immediate dividends, as substitute David Okoth scored a powerful near-post header in the 56th minute, levelling the score.

Police made three more changes in the 73rd minute, maintaining the pressure. Despite several chances from both sides, the match ended in a 1–1 draw at 1655 hours.

The result was enough to seal the title for Police FC, who finished the season on 65 points, six ahead of Gor Mahia’s 59.

Since their promotion to the top tier in the 2020–2021 season,POLICE F.C have demonstrated remarkable growth. From finishing 10th in their debut season, they climbed to 4th, then 3rd, and now stand proudly as champions—a testament to their strategy, consistency, and resilience.

Kenya Police FC patron and Principal Secretary Ministry of Interior, Dr. Raymond Omollo, lauded the team for their professionalism and performance throughout the season. He noted that Police FC is the only club in the league with audited accounts, reflecting transparency and good governance.

Notable leaders who attended the event included CS Interior, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, PS Interior, Dr. Raymond Omollo, Former Prime Minister, H.E. Raila Odinga, and FKF Deputy Chair, McDonald Mariga.

Also present were the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, Acting DIG KPS, Mr. Patrick Tito, SAIG, Commandant of the National Police College and Kenya Police FC Executive Chair, Mr. Nyale Munga, SAIG, Commandant of the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA), Mr. Sospeter Munyi, SAIG, Kenya Police FC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Chris Oguso (CP), and Kenya Police FC Executive Treasurer, Mr. Malkit Singh.

The National Police Service (NPS) extends heartfelt congratulations to the team, the victory reflects the team’s core values both on and off the field, in line with its motto: “Policing Through Sports.”
