Eliud Lagat has stepped aside from his office as Deputy Inspector General of Police.
In a letter, Lagat says he has done so to allow investigations into the death of Albert Ojwang at Central Police station in Nairobi raising uproar among Kenyans and civil society groups.
“I have today opted to step aside from the office of Deputy Inspector General- Kenya Police Service pending Completion of investigations,” he stated.
He added that the functions of the office shall continue to be performed by his Deputy until completion of investigations.
Lagat reiterated that he is ready to provide any assistance needed during the ongoing investigations into the incidents around the death of Ojwang, an incident he termed unfortunate.
He at the same time sent his message of condolences to the family of the late Albert Ojwang’.
